Questions about roofing, painting, and shingling our "dream" house...?
mrspepper is stupid, felt is a vapor barrier, if you don't heat the dog house you don't need felt because there will be no condensation in between the shingles and you sheeting, it doesn't matter if you put the felt under or over the flashing, if you put it under the metal, it will hold it down, but do it in the same day, if you put the felt on one day, the next day you will have to cut all the wrinkles (if it gets cold), if you paint the underside of the osb, remember to use short nails, if they come through they will splinter, if you use staples to hold down your starter coarse, and nail your shingles as low as you can, the nails will go through both layers, and they will have less of a chance to come through, again it doesn't matter if the felt is under or over the metal, the shingles hold out the water, NOT the felt, if you are relying on the felt to keep water out, you're installing the shingles wrong
